Cylinder Pressure

The piezoelectric principle has gained worldwide acceptance for precision measurement of cylinder pressure. For research engines Kistler supplies compact cylinder pressure sensors with a cooling system and highly accurate signal processing electronics.

For development projects miniature sensors are used. These are available in various forms to allow a high standard of measurement to be achieved with minimum adaptation. Other solutions completely avoid the need for cylinder head modification.

Kistler incorporates the sensor in a spark plug or glow plug. The company offers what are called measuring spark plugs in numerous different sizes, and with various types of electrode and heat values.

For diesel engines Kistler supplies fully serviceable glow plugs and matching adapters with built-in pressure sensor. This measurement setup also allows safe and cost-effective access to the combustion chamber.

  Applications

Small size and rugged design for engines with complex build geometry, can also be used without problem in knocking combustion. The angled sealing surface places only minor requirements on quality of the mounting bore.
